HOW I GOT INTO SAILING 4 YEARS AGO
Hello! Since there are so many new followers (WOW – thank you!!) I thought I’d introduce myself and tell my story.
4 years ago a friend invited me to come out and sail and I was hooked. I decided I wanted to learn how to sail so I scrounged up the courage to take an ASA 101 course and now I absolutely love it. Shortly after I took the course a coworker invited me to come out and race with him at his club. I was completely intimidated but he assured me that it would be fine.
He was absolutely right! That night I met the team and I was surprised to see quite a few ladies were on it. They were more then happy to show me the ropes and I’ve been racing with them ever since.
Between May and September I race in New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island with the team. During the other months I travel around the world looking for opportunities to encourage more women to learn the sport.
I want to encourage more people to try to get outdoors, and try new things especially on the water.
Are there times when I’m afraid, Yes! But I push past that because once I accomplish something I realize that I’m stronger than I think. The one thing I took away from this experience is that you can do anything you set your mind to!
